ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) — A new 458 area code for Eastern Oregon is going into operation this summer. For many residents of rural areas it will also mean conversion to 10-digit dialing from seven digits.

Mandatory 10-digit dialing begins Sunday in Oregon, which now has a 458 area code to go along with 971, 541 and the original 503.
